The Costa Brava is known in Spain as the richest region for scenery as well as wealth. Lying just south of the Pyrenees in northern Spain it is a privileged land, full of fascinating and varied scenery and stretches from Figueres in the north down to Barcelona in the south. The heart of the region is the gorgeous historic city of Girona, which has some wonderful pedestrianised areas, especially the old Jewish district which is mostly winding cobbled streets which lead up to the old Cathedral.
The region is made up of rolling hills and mountains most of which are capped by pine forests and it is a very green region, the coastal areas are the nicest in Spain, the most idyllic beaches both large and small. There are beautiful sandy cove beaches in all areas, from the small beaches such as Aigua Blava Bay, to the large resorts of Roses, Tossa de Mar and Pals. Most of the coast is protected by cliffs, which give spectacular views of the coastline and a really rugged and spectacular appearance and back drop to the beaches.
Costa Brava has a superb climate benefitting from a natural protection from the mountain ranges, it is very temperate year round, one can enjoy 20 degrees in February and 35 degrees in June to September, there is little wind here especially in the Girona region. The cuisine is something special, the culinary qualities of the Spanish and the French blend into a melting pot of taste and textures, wonderful to behold. Indeed the Catalan cuisine is world renowned and there are more Michelin star dining venues than anywhere in the world per capita.Email Us View Destination

Girona is so much better as a point of access when compared to Barcelona as the airport lies just just 7 minutes away from the amazing PGA Catalunya Golf Resort and 15 minutes from the heart of the City. If you prefer scheduled flight options then you can fly British Airways from London Gatwick to Barcelona and this is about 70 minutes to the PGA Catalunya Resort and just about 2 hours up to Peralada, driving south to north.
PGA Catalunya continue to offer complimentary transfers from Barcelona and Girona to the Camiral Hotel if you are a minimum of 8 persons and stay a minimum of 3 nights.
We can recommend car hire or private transfers, it really depends on your personal preference, no question that car hire is the cheaper option if you are less than 8 persons and the driving is very easy in this part of Spain.
This part of Spain has had a good array of Championship courses for over 25 years now, in the 90s the European Tour Q School was held every Autumn at Pals and Emporda Golf, with the La Costa Golf Hotel being the hotel venue. After the opening of the PGA Catalunya Golf Resort in the late 90s the venue took over as the Q School annual test for Pros trying to get back on the European Tour. The Stadium Course is now recognised as Spain's number 1 venue and likely to host a Ryder Cup. It has already hosted the Spanish Open more than once. The sister course known as the Tour is also carved through hills, valleys and pine forests with lovely mountain views and some water features. The Stadium Course is not just long, but tight, with tough raised greens and run offs with heavy bunkering on the fairways but mostly around the greens.
Residents of the Camiral can enjoy special privileges on the PGA Catalunya courses including big green fee discounts.
The Peralada course is located 1 hour north of PGA Catalunya and has now matured into a terrific layout adjacent to the boutique luxury hotel which is a fine 5 star venue. The course is a classic parkland with plenty of hills and elevated tees, stunning vistas across the countryside down to the coastline and in to the mountains to the interior of the Costa Brava. The fairways are flanked by olive trees and umbrella pines on some holes giving a wonderful frame to the course.
The Costa Brava also offers great courses at Masnou on top of a mountain, which overlooks the Mediterranean and the Girona course which is close to the City and incredibly hilly and spectacular. If you are seeking more golf then Empordas 36 holes are awesome and very contrasting links v forestland whilst Pals is the tightest tree lined course in Spain through big umbrella pines.Email Us View Destination
The Camiral Hotel reopened in July 2016 after closing in the Autumn of 2015, formerly called the Melia PGA Catalunya, the property has been upgraded to 5 star status and is so different to its previous guise. Instead of being dark and moody as it was before it is now bright, with oodles of natural light, cool, sophisticated, contemporary and stylish with great ambience in all aspects. The public areas are simply stunning and very unique and interesting in terms of furniture and architecture. While the staff who are all new from the reopening and are smart, young, professional, polite and extremely courteous. The hotel just has a new air of dynamism and the bar and restaurants have been changed beyond recognition. Indeed the new terraced area, which is open air on the pool side has a clever roof to give shelter and is simply superb, with a cool air of sophistication. The terracing offers great ambience and lovely views across the pool and gardens beyond. The cuisine of the 1477 restaurant is exceptional now and unrivalled in hotels of the region, with the exception of Peralada which gets close in the quality stakes. The menu is varied and unique, offering a superb blend of fish, seafood and game or meat, the tastes and textures and presentation are all notable, topped off by wonderful friendly service.
The bar terrace and inside area is also so much improved and really cool with a super array of gins, whiskies, local wines and cocktails, served by elegant and polite staff. Poolside there is bar service throughout the day and with the new landscaping of the gardens the pool area is now well sheltered and a real haven of peace and tranquillity.
Hotel guests can also enjoy the public areas and lounges, which are equally stylish or the newly equipped gymnasium with its outside area for yoga and aerobic classes adding a new dimension. Furthermore there is a new spa area with a jet pool and sauna and ice sauna which is available for a small entry fee.
Bedrooms are bright with super art and contemporary furniture, good size balconies which mostly overlook the pool behind the hotels.
Residents can enjoy a courtesy shuttle to the Clubhouse, which is about 10 minutes walk beyond the outstanding practice ground and the short game pitching and bunker areas. The Tour course is right next to the hotel gardens such as the 10th fairway whilst the Stadium course is the other side of the Clubhouse.
If you are booking as a party of 8 or more for 3 nights to the Camiral we can offer complimentary airport transfers from Barcelona and Girona airports which is a major benefit and at times we may be able to organise complimentary Taylor Made rental sets. If you are staying at the resort we highly recommend dining on resort but also we can recommend some sumptuous dining venues some of them Michelin star in close proximity to the hotel, also the city of Girona is only a 25 euro taxi fare for a night out to remember in one of Spain's classic old cities.
The piece de resistance of the Camiral Hotel and PGA Catalunya Resort is the outstanding golf and practice facilities, the Stadium is simply Spain's best golf course and yet it is exceptional value for money.Email Us Visit resort
