Fancourt is the ultimate South African Golf Resort. A combination of Old World charm and contemporary luxury is what makes the Fancourt Hotel so distinctive. At Fancourt, guests can choose between the beautifully restored Manor House, which has a semi all inclusive package and private check in with private butlers on hand for each room, or one of the many stately one or two bedroom Garden Suites and Luxury Rooms, some of which overlook the Montagu or Outeniqua golf courses.
Fancourt's garden suites and luxury rooms offer guests the chance to rest in the most peaceful setting of all - the magnificent gardens. At the Manor House, you will find a restful haven in a building with a history dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. In 1847 Henry Fancourt White established a workers' base at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, for the construction of the Montagu Pass. Now a National Monument, the Manor House is situated in wooded parkland and is the perfect base for your leisure.
Fancourt is unrivalled in terms of reputation across the whole of Africa and it certainly ranks as one of our top 5 resorts for golfer’s worldwide. The three golf courses are magnificent and ranked in South Africa’s top 20, the Links has to be one of the world’s most challenging golf courses and a classic test of golf to rival the world’s best. Residents can enjoy VIP Club Lounge at George airport on departure.
The Fancourt is in such a good location, it is just 7 minutes from George airport and 10 minutes from the centre of George, a delightful and historic town. For those clients who would prefer to drive from Cape Town it is similar to driving from Glasgow to London, circa 8 hours. One can take an internal flight from Cape Town to George with South African Airlines in just 50 minutes and just 15 minutes out and across to Fancourt, a very slick transfer system is assured.

The Outeniqua is the third course at Fancourt, just 2 minute’s walk away from the Hotel lobby, it is a gorgeous parkland layout with large greens and well laid out through mature trees and shrubs, immaculate conditioning throughout all year round, it has the most generous wide fairways compared to its two illustrious sister courses, however, it is no pushover and is ranked 18 in the whole of South Africa. Our golf packages will always include 1 round here as it is such a cracking layout and well recommended to play it before you play the Links and Montagu which are longer and tighter. We fully recommend taking caddies here for circa £20 per 18 holes including tip. Buggies are also available.
The 1st tee of the Montagu is right in front of the one bedroom suites at Fancourt, with the ninth hole also finishing in front of the hotel and clubhouse. The Montagu is ranked 8 in South Africa, a magnificent test of golf, a classic parkland layout with just 18 excellent holes, many of which have elevated tees, the front nine is equally as strong as the back nine, there are some great water holes which really test ones nerves, watch out for hole 17 a par right over a lake. Special features include very slick and well manicured greens and lots of long par 4 holes and some classic par 5s like the 18th. The Montagu is tough make no mistake about it, but it is a joy to play, the scenery of the countryside which surrounds the golf course and the mountains is awe inspiring. We fully recommend taking caddies here for circa £20 per 18 holes including tip. Buggies are also available.
The Links is quite simply the best golf course on the Cape and designed by Gary Player to be as true a links as any golf course could be, the only difference being that there is no sea adjacent, as it is about 10 miles from the Indian Ocean. The Clubhouse and membership is very exclusive and separate to the other Fancourt golf courses. Situated just 5 minutes transfer from the hotel, the atmosphere at Fancourt is electric, caddies weat white overalls just like at Augusta. There are so many strong holes on the Links, it is difficult to pick one out, but the course is so good and such a stiff challenge, most holes require a long carry over wild rye grass, or marshland. There are many holes with elevated tees, some cracking par 3s and very strong long par 4s and very challenging par 5s also. The links pot bunkers have railway sleepers to give an authentic look and are as deep as any course in St Andrews, a couple of short par 4 holes allow the risk and reward shot. Watch out for the amazing finishing hole which plays as a par 5 uphill over a saddle with a green you could make in two with a big saddle/ridge right in the middle of the green. The Links has hosted many major PGA Events including the South Africa Open and only the very best players win here like Els, Goosen and Grace. Caddies here are mandatory.
Beautiful as ever, management, staff, service, food etc was all top notch Peter Garnier (Feb.16)
We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Fancourt with superb golf. Helped by cheap prices caused by the exceptional exchange rate. Accomodation was first class and transfer smooth. Would definitely recommend and go again. Please pass our thanks to David. Nigel Trollope, March 2014
Just to say that we had a wonderful time at Fancourt, played every day including the day we left and we played the Links three times. After the first time we played the Links, we told Nigel and Tessa that they couldn't possibly go home without playing the Links (!) and so they joined us on one of the days and loved it as well. Many thanks for all your arrangements and we look forward to doing another holiday with Elegant Golf Resorts soon - Marji
Just wanted to drop you a short note to say thank you for arranging my amazing trip – you’ll be pleased to know that everything went to plan, no delays in the flights, the car was a great asset to have and the hotels were great. Thoroughly enjoy Cape Town, the safari at Gondwana will be remembered for a long time and I will be recommending this place to my colleagues should they venture down that part of the world. With regards to the golf, I had a great time playing the courses around the Cape and met some charming people to play with along the way. As regards to Fancourt, what a fantastic place, really pleased I made the decision to go and stay there for nine days as it truly was an amazing place if you are a golf nut like me. Didn’t get to play Pinacle Point as decided to have some time out away from golf. One extra plus side I guess to the trip was the Rand exchange rate, let’s hope it stays there for the future !! - Peter Garnier
