The Awali is back with a new look and following great reinvestment the hotel looks very good looking towards the main season from November.
There have been some interesting improvements to the entire property and the restaurants particularly.
The quality of the Heritage Awali is exceptional, with a very fine array of white and red wines to choose from with your meals, any grape is catered for and several countries are covered. The liquor options at the bar are more wide ranging than the Le Telfair Gourmet Bliss offering, one can taste Tanqueray Gin and Johnnie Walker Black Label for example and most if not all cocktails are available.
The Seven Colours Spa is impressive and every client receives at least one free 45 minute treatment. If you upgrade to the premium all inclusive you will receive a 45 minute treatment every day and you also receive free daily fold on the Heritage course. However, there are other unique advantages such as a lobster dinner at the Infinity Blue, a co lime gary dinner at Boma which is a pop up African barbecue venue and you get privileges including a free lunch and entry to the nearby Frederica Nature with a Quad Bike Trek. You also get an upgraded mini bar in your room.
It is worth mentioning that normal all inclusive guests also receive free daily green fees and we highly recommend to book all golf tee times in advance of arriving.
Heritage Awali is the most successful all inclusive hotel, for discerning guests on the island of Mauritius tucked away in the beautiful region of Bel Ombré.
For water sports enthusiasts the two Heritage properties share a water sports school on the far side of the river at Telfair and all motorised sports are complimentary. It is noteworthy that you can also organise water skiing, scuba diving and kite surfing which is excellent in this region of the Island.
The Heritage is situated on the south/west of the Island of Mauritius – so it gets the best sunsets on the Island. It is in the privileged unspoilt and undeveloped region of Bel Ombre, with beautiful mountain ranges, close by inland, including the famous Frederica National Park. The resort is about 1 hour’s transfer from Mauritius International airport, which is in the south-east corner of the Island. It has an amazing white sand beach and a river running through the middle of the resort.
Each room is equipped with free in room WiFi, a ceiling fan, individually controlled air-conditioning, electronic safe, interactive flat screen TV with satellite channels, telephones with international direct dialling access, mini-bar with tea and coffee making facilities as well as laundry service and 24 hour room service.

Each of the suites has an espresso machine, cd/dvd player and Jacuzzi in the bathroom. At 100m2 these rooms can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under 12 (or 1 teenager).

The buffet restaurant previously called Balafon has been totally upgraded and the interior buffet is now so much stronger in look and feel, there have also been marked upgrades on the quality of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has hence been rebranded Savana and there is a small a la carte section outside here also, to add more variety.
The poolside restaurant offers a quick light meal such as salads, paninis and sandwiches.
The Infinity Blue remains one of the all time favourites for repeat clients offering mostly fish and seafood dishes, it is unique in that features a sand floor but has a roof, however, it is very adjacent to the ocean.
Open for dinner once per week (weather permitting), this is an open air family friendly African restaurant, guests will enjoy an African show while trying the traditional dishes; fire grilled meat and fresh water fish.
A stunning adult only Italian restaurant, delicately placed amongst the pool with an unrivalled view over the lagoon.
An adult only Indian restaurant which looks out over the pool terraces and bar.
The Heritage Golf Club has won several awards as the most impressive golf design in Mauritius. Designed by renowned architect the course attracts plaudits from many Elegant Golf clients. The tough up hill first hole is one of the most testing starts in golf, the highlight holes in the front nine are the 5th to 7th which are simply superb with elevated tees and roller coaster tee shots. Look out for the resident monkeys whol live alongside holes 6 and 7, they are quite tame. The downhill risk and reward 9th has water down the left side and maybe worth getting the driver out, whilst the flatter 10th and 11th are excellent holes, preceding the links style up hill 12th through dune like mounds with pampas grass. The finishing stretch from 15 -18 is magnificent and well worth the full accolades the course has receive. Heritage will host the Afraisa Open in November 2017 and will be enhanced in November 2018 by the opening of a second course.
If you book Gourmet Bliss at Le Telfair the green fees and buggy are included. Staying at Awali golf is free but no buggy is included.
The best time of the year to play is between mid October to mid April for course conditions. Although May and June are also good golf months.
Although you want feedback on your aspect of the trip, you might like to know that the hotel was up to and even beyond its usual standards. The food was exceptional in all but the Chateau, which considering it was the one we had to pay for, we were disappointed. They also messed up our booking twice – the first time for Sue’s birthday a table for 4 had been booked, but only a table for 2 was ready, and the second time they hadn’t even got the booking. They tried to blame the hotel, but I am certain the blame lies with them!! Anyway, it didn’t spoil the trip! The golf course was also wonderful (not that I play), but there was such a lot of rain (4 inches plus) on the Saturday night/Sunday morning of the middle weekend, that they had to close it – disappointing for the chaps! Christope Ramdiane is an excellent GM – runs a very tight ship, and all his staff are very happy. There are many who have been there for a long time, and some since the hotel opened. Ang Williams (May.16)
The hotel is really excellent value for money especially if like us you play golf nearly every day. What makes it stand out is the customer service. All the staff are so friendly. Rooms are large and spotlessly clean. The drinks are high quality. Nothing was too much trouble, food was excellent and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Golf course was superb Jacqueline Leutchford (Jan.16)
The welcome and the service received at Heritage Awali was as always second to none. This was our third visit to Awali and we will have no hesitation in returning in 2017 Herbert Austin (Feb.16)
Firstly can we thank you at Elegant Golf for organising the best holiday we have ever had. Both of us were delighted with the hotel, all the staff, the great food and a fantastic golf experience. Kim Dalwood (Nov.15)
We had a fantastic time in Mauritius at Awali and hope to return soon. The hotel staff were excellent and the all inclusive package worked perfectly. Heritage golf was first class, the course was immaculate and the staff could not do enough to help. Richard Nye (Oct.14)
Have to say our Mauritius experience was excellent, service at the hotel was faultless, quality of the "all inclusive" cuisine + wine was exceptional. Location and lay out of the hotel is very guest friendly, beaches and gardens were clean and well maintained. Understand there is a room refurbishment programme starting later in the year and perhaps that's timely. However, the room we stayed in was more than adequate, everything worked; tv, air con, safe, blinds etc; room cleaning and mini bare service were top notch. "Summer Times" did a great job, they were attentive but unobtrusive; we did an island tour which was interesting and well organised; transfers were punctual and efficient. I have saved the best till last; thought the golf course was wonderful, tees for all abilities it could be difficult or very difficult! The whole course, tees fairways and greens were a joy to behold. To top it off clubhouse facilities, particularly lunch was excellent - Peter Chase (Feb 2014)
Wonderful staff, so helpful and friendly Course excellent and challenging - Susan Groombridge
