This elegant hotel has a French Colonial flavour in terms of its architecture, the hotel was opened in 2005 and has been built on the site of an old Sugar Plantation owned by French entrepreneur Charles Telfair. The property has style and panache and eye catching designs, very much unique in Mauritius. A lovely river runs through the heart of the resort splitting the rooms on either side. The rooms on one side of the river are walking distance to the golf clubhouse at Heritage, whilst on the other one generally gets a shuttle transfer from the lobby.
The main attraction of staying at Le Telfair is that you receive free golf on the stunning Heritage Golf Course, which is now beyond argument the number one golf course on Mauritius. However, the service levels and cuisine are exceptional and it is a small hotel relatively with just 158 rooms, so it never appears busy.
Hotel guests can enjoy 3 hard court tennis courts, a great gymnasium and take part in lots of group stretching, yoga and Pilates lessons.
Looking to the future the Le Telfair will close for some renovation from June to August 2017 and in November 2018 a second course will open on a stunning piece of land higher on the Estate. Finally special mention of the Frederica Nature Reserve close by owned by the property where you can get out into the wilderness on the mountainside, and enjoy Quad Bike Trails, Jeep Trails or Buggy Trails.
The Seven Colours Spa at Le Telfair is also a stand out highlight in the most beautiful surroundings and at 2000 square metres has plenty of massive treatment rooms, relaxation areas, a pool with massage jets etc.
For water sports enthusiasts the two Heritage properties share a water sports school on the far side of the river at Telfair and all motorised sports are complimentary. It is noteworthy that you can also organise water skiing, scuba diving and kite surfing which
Is excellent in this region of the Island. You can even take a kayak up the river through the resort which is fun.
The Heritage is situated on the south/west of the Island of Mauritius – so it gets the best sunsets on the Island. It is in the privileged unspoilt and undeveloped region of Bel Ombre, a 2500 hectares private estate with beautiful mountain ranges, close by inland, including the famous Frederica National Park. The resort is about 40 minutes transfer from Mauritius International airport, which is in the south-east corner of the Island. It has an amazing white sand beach and a river running through the middle of the resort.
Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan, individually controlled air-conditioning, electronic safe, interactive flat screen TV with satellite channels, free in room WiFi, telephones with international direct dialling access, data port, mini-bar with tea and coffee making facilities and dressing table. The natural light in the sea view deluxe and junior suites with ocean view is exceptional.
It would be true to say that the deluxe resort view rooms are beautifully appointed and have big bathrooms with twin sink, sunken bath and walk in shower, with a walk in wardrobe. The bathrooms open up and look into the bedrooms. These rooms are 54-62 m2 and can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under 12 (in an extra bed). Deluxe Ocean View and Deluxe BeachFront rooms are also available with a supplement. Almost half of these rooms are available as interconnecting rooms to other Deluxe Rooms or a selection of Junior Suites.
We would highly recommend upgrading to sea view and especially the junior suite beach front rooms, they have gorgeous bathrooms with stand alone baths. The 81 m2 suite has a hexagonal lounge area and includes a large poster and meridian bed. There is a large antique type bath in the centre of the bathroom and the suites on the ground floor also have an outdoor shower. These rooms can accommodate 2 adults and a cot can be placed in the room for an infant.
The senior suites come with a separate lounge and are exceptional. Wonderfully convivial, the Senior Suite includes a lounge and dining area. The antique furniture and large four poster bed create a romantic atmosphere. The suites on the ground floor feature an outdoor shower and a few of the suites have a sea view.
The two 104m2 suites are on the beach front on the foot step of the Indian Ocean, they feature a large veranda, spacious lounge, dining area and guest washroom. The adjoining bedroom has a wide linen-draped four poster bed as well as a spacious en-suite bathroom and a private outdoor shower area. They can accommodate 2 adults and 1 child (in an extra bed).
Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan, individually controlled air-conditioning, electronic safe, interactive flat screen TV with satellite channels, telephones with international direct dialling access, mini-bar with tea and coffee making facilities and dressing table. Free butler service for all Suite category rooms.
The highlight restaurants are undoubtedly the Asian Ginja which is now seen as the stand out option situated on the beach at the mouth of the river. The cuisine excels here, if you like spice! However, Annabella which is where you also take breakfast is first class and not generally buffet with different areas with different ambiences.
Residents can also dine up at the Chateau de Bel Ombré which is a unique experience.
What we would generally recommend is for clients to consider upgrading to the Gourmet Bliss option, which then includes a very good drinks inclusion with a good array of wines, liquor, beers and soft drinks too. The piece de resistance however is the
Fact that you can dine at a total of 7 restaurants on the Estate including the fine options at Heritage Awali which includes the new Italian Zenzibar and the Indian Zafarani, both adult only hotels, with a special mention of the Infinity Blue, fish restaurant. The Gourmet Bliss also gives you buggy included on all your golf rounds at Heritage, with the special option of playing one round at the new Avalon course, which is also designed by Peter Matkovich.
The main restaurant Annabella’s open for breakfast and dinner, is the ideal place to meet in a convivial atmosphere inspired by ‘the kitchen of the great house’ of Bel Ombre, and the charm of being received by Annabella, the lady of the house, the wife of Charles Telfair.
Divided into four distinct spaces around an open kitchen and has a creative chic brasserie menu which is constantly renewed Annabella’s also has a large terrace. A menu for the younger generation is also available.
Set on a stretch of white sandy beach, overlooking the lagoon, this modern lifestyle restaurant serves Pan Asian inspired cuisine with a relaxed ambience. A teppanyaki experience is also available.
Enjoy Gin’ja bar for a sundowner experience facing the beautiful lagoon and Citronniers River.
Open from 10:30am for drinks and light meals from 12noon, the ideal place to enjoy an aperitif or a light meal in a piano bar atmosphere.
This Pool bar & restaurant is the ideal place for those who want uninterrupted enjoyment of the sea. It offers light lunches, snacks, salads, ice creams and refreshments.
Located on the beachfront right next to the resort, the club includes two restaurants, a bar, swimming pool, a boat house, an ice cream corner.
Built in the 19th Century and set amidst elegant 100 year old gardens, residents can enjoy an exceptional, truly Mauritian dinner made with local products in this timeless setting.
Offering light meals throughout the day, this is the perfect place to refuel after a round of golf or simply as a substitute to the beach! The menu offers a choice of sandwiches, salads and Mauritian dishes and can be served on the terrace overlooking the golf course.
The Heritage Golf Club has won several awards as the most impressive golf design in Mauritius. Designed by renowned architect the course attracts plaudits from many Elegant Golf clients. The tough up hill first hole is one of the most testing starts in golf, the highlight holes in the front nine are the 5th to 7th which are simply superb with elevated tees and roller coaster tee shots. Look out for the resident monkeys whol live alongside holes 6 and 7, they are quite tame. The downhill risk and reward 9th has water down the left side and maybe worth getting the driver out, whilst the flatter 10th and 11th are excellent holes, preceding the links style up hill 12th through dune like mounds with pampas grass. The finishing stretch from 15 -18 is magnificent and well worth the full accolades the course has receive. Heritage will host the Afraisa Open in November 2017 and will be enhanced in November 2018 by the opening of a second course.
If you book Gourmet Bliss at Le Telfair the green fees and buggy are included. Staying at Awali golf is free but no buggy is included.
The best time of the year to play is between mid October to mid April for course conditions. Although May and June are also good golf months.
We had a fabulous holiday. The service we received was first class and we have recommended both yourself and LeTelfair to several friends. We plan to return in the not too distant future. K.Dilks (Apr.16)
Chris and I had a great time in Mauritius. The Heritage Telfair is a lovely hotel, and we enjoyed it much more than we would have if we'd stayed at The Heritage Awali. Although we didn't spend much time at The Awali, the two hotels were chalk and cheese. The whole ambience at The Telfair was altogether different and much more to our liking. The golf course as you and others had been telling us was excellent. I thought that the design was excellent, fairly generous fairways, but some demanding shots to the the greens, and very tricky greens at times, but in absolutely immaculate condition and with some stunning views on the front nine especially. We were glad to have paid for the all inclusive option, as the price of some drinks was high. At £47 per person per day, the "gourmet bliss" package was great value. Thank you for offering it to us. - Mickey
We have recently returned from the holiday you organised for us at Le Telfair in Mauritius and just wanted to say that it was fantastic. The hotel was beautiful and the golf really great. We hope to go back! - Rebecca & Martin Auer
We had a fabulous holiday at Le Telfair. It is hard to think how it could be improved and we really appreciated all the effort that you and colleagues at Elegant put in to making sure it was the perfect trip for us. Both our sons have said it was the best holiday they have ever had. The resort was lovely with wonderful staff and excellent food and drink. We really enjoyed the golf course and each of us managed to play some good golf during the holiday. We would certainly recommend the resort to any of our friends and as ever, would heartily recommend they booked with Elegant Golf. - M.Wood (Oct.16)
