The Oitavos is an impressive boutique property in the middle of the outstanding links course Oitavos Dunes, the hotel is constructed almost purely of glass providing amazing vistas across the forest, dunes, links and ocean. Many views from the hotel and the outdoor terrace area where one can take breakfast and lunch have stunning sea views from the high land of Oitavos. The hotel is unique, it is exceptional in all aspects as many aspects of the interiors are open plan. The bar and restaurants are chic and the style of a cool city centre hotel. The staff are young, very polite and professional and exceptionally smart which is a refreshing change in Portugal. The cuisine is exquisite and very fairly priced especially if you take advantage of our book early pay in full deals they have created for 2014 season.
The best thing about the Oitavos is the bedrooms, they are the coolest in Cascais and the Estoril area, with lots of totally unique modern contemporary features especially in respect of the toilet and the bath/shower aspects. Most of the rooms have great balconies with sea or golf view and the golf course is just a 5 minute walk through the dunes to the clubhouse. The 18th hole runs alongside the hotel whereby a hook can put you out of bounds in the swimming pool area. The spa at Oitavos is amazing with great inside wet areas, treatment rooms a small indoor pool and great outdoor sun terrace areas, with an exceptional infinity pool looking out down to the golf links and the ocean beyond. Oitavos is the classiest golf resort in this part of Portugal and a lovely contrast to the more traditional resort at Penha Longa.

The Oitavos Dunes Golf Course, which was designed by Arthur Hills, was developed by Quinta da Marinha and opened in 2001. Since then it has been recognised worldwide as one of the best natural links golf courses, and its sand dunes and ocean environment make playing it, an experience similar to playing links courses in Scotland.
The Links is simply superb from start to finish with every hole offering ocean vistas, some of the early holes have pine forest flanked fairways, while many of the holes have great sand dunes alongside fairways or framing par threes. The patch of holes from 7-13 are the best part of the course, located on the high point of the course and close to the ocean, this course take your breath away, we recommend one does not hire buggies here because you will miss out on the lovely terrain. It is a conservation area and the owners keep buggy prices high, to put people off booking, but they have just introduced caddies to hire instead.
Oitavos Dunes has hosted the Portuguese Open four times (2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and has been recognised by GOLF Magazine as: -Number one golf course in Portugal -Number three golf course in mainland Europe -One of the 50 Greatest Courses of the last 50 years
The Oitavos was a very different hotel and golf course but was also very impressive. The one issue here, which was rather embarassing, was that we were initially told we could not use the indoor swimming pool as we had not paid for this. This was resolved following discussion with the staff. We draw this to your attention so that other clients are not put in the same position. Alastair Cruden, March 2014
Golf excellent, food & drink good value, Oitavos Course, facilities, staff and condition all fantastic - Pete Mears
